Craig Layman is the Vice President of Financial and Investment Services and launched UMassFive’s program in 2003. He has 25 years experience in the investment industry, both as a financial advisor and as a manager of financial advisors for a major US bank. He earned a BA in Economics and an MBA from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Craig holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)® designation, indicating he has passed rigorous exams focusing on financial markets, securities, and their associated risks. Craig likes being part of UMassFive because the employees are great to work with and actually have fun at work. “The staff truly cares about our members and the culture demands that we put members’ interests first in every situation. Our members love the Credit Union and appreciate how we differ from banks.”
It is satisfying for Craig to know he can contribute to helping our members achieve goals like comfortable retirement, educating their children, or starting a business. Many people are either unaware of the tools available to them to increase their wealth or they are uneasy about them. Craig enjoys educating members in these areas and helping them feel comfortable. One of his strengths as an advisor is to help people understand money-related concepts that they don’t normally deal with.
When he’s not advising, Craig enjoys bicycling and motorcycling as well as running and hiking. He likes to eat well and learn about wine. Craig and his wife share their home with rescued dogs.
